An account of a banquet patterned after the Symposium, in which nine persons take turns in discussing Plato's dialogue, assuming the names of his nine characters. "Questo convito accade davvero, e ... davvero vi si parlò del 'Simposio' di Platone: solo del descrivere quel convito il Ficino sostitui il proprio commento ai discorsi dei convitati".--A. della Torre, Storia dell' Accademia platonica, p. 604
"Osservazioni per la pronunzia fiorentina di Neri Dorteláta da Firenze" (p. [6]-[38] at beginning) is believed to be by Cosimo Bartoli. It deals with the correct representation of the sounds of the Italian language, by means of accents and the introduction of new letters (j and v, as distinct from i and u, etc.)
18th-century half-vellum and red and cream printed paper over boards. Horizontal gold tooling on spine. Red leather overlay with 'M. Ficino Convito di Platone' stamped in gold on spine. Some underlinings in 'Osservazione ... ' Ms. notes on references to this book written in pencil on rear pastedown. Ms. notes in ink in margin of p. 99. Several of the pagination errors have been corrected by hand in black ink. Vendor's description of this volume glued to front pastedown
